Once I retired from professional bull riding and rodeo in general, I decided to get my teeth fixed. I had multiple dental problems, lots of teeth that had been pulled and busted. It was time to get them fixed. It was starting to create health problems and everything. I’d seen multiple dentists and I chose High Plains Periodontics because they offered, one, a finance program that worked with me. That worked out real good. And two, the knowledge that they shared with me about the different procedures that were offered and available. And I chose them because I didn’t wanna just put a patch on everything. I’m more of a, if we’re gonna fix it, let’s fix it right now that I’m retired and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve gotten comments on my smile that I haven’t gotten maybe all my life.

As a 20-year professional bull rider going up against the greatest athletes in the world, you had to have confidence to compete at that level. Throughout all my injuries and dental work that I had done over the years, I’d kinda lost a lot of confidence in my smile. Once I retired and came to High Plains Periodontics to get my teeth work done, it gave me the confidence again, that I needed. You know, I’m no longer competing, but I haven’t had as many compliments on my smile in 40 years. You know, not only was it great for my health to get the work done here at High Plains Periodontics but it’s been great for my confidence. Confidence is key in everything you do, and I can’t say thank you enough to the staff and Dr. Everett, especially, here at High Plains Periodontics.

I enjoy coming to High Plains Periodontics because of the great service we’ve gotten and how accommodating they’ve been to me and my family. Having a lot of dental work through my life, this practice sets itself apart because of the family atmosphere and the great service they’ve gave me, and the patients. And I’m pretty picky and they really worked with me and I can’t say enough great things about ’em. Dr. Everett has been nothing but a friend through my whole procedure, which was multiple years to get the final product. And he’s so personable. His staff are so friendly and, you know, they really, really go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable and work with you, you know, with the schedules and everything. I can’t say enough about the quality of care that High Plains Periodontics has gave me. The exceptional work they did, and not to mention, the personalization that they treated me with. And I’ve come to know some of the staff and I feel like they’re my friends, not just my doctor. I’ve seen what it’s done for me, not only in my health and digestion but overall confidence that I have now in my new smile. And if I was gonna suggest anywhere, this is the place I’d go.

My experience here as a patient began when I experienced pain in one of my molars. And being busy, I didn’t take care of my teeth as well as I probably should. I’m sure that’s happened to a lot of people. I came here and sure enough, I had to have a molar removed. And then as part of the process, we began the bone graft at that appointment when the molar was removed, and I might say it was a fast and easy experience. At another appointment, we actually placed the implant, and then at a third appointment, placed the crown on the implant. And Dr. Everett handled all those procedures. And I was just so grateful to have the tooth back. I would highly recommend the office, I’d highly recommend Dr. Everett, and I do give them my story. I relate to them, what happened to me, and I feel like that’s firsthand information. It’s really important and I have it. So I feel very comfortable referring patients over here.

I first met Dr. Everett in the office I’m practicing at now. We had referred a patient to Dr. Everett for an implant, and I had not done that particular crown on an implant. He came to the office and actually assisted me in placing that crown, and I was just very impressed with his professionalism, and his helpfulness. It was very helpful. The patient was very impressed, too, because he came from his office to our office. So, everybody was impressed. I was really impressed with the technology that’s available here. That’s real important for placing implants. Later when I came here as a patient, I saw that technology in action on me and I was very grateful for it. I refer lots of patients over here, because I’m very confident that they will be taken care of in a very professional way. Diligent, professional care that will find the problem and take care of it.

I came here for soft tissue grafting after a referral from my general dentistry office. I was having big issues with sensitivity, mainly along my canines. I had had orthodontic work when I was younger. My canines came in really high, so I don’t know if that had anything to do with it. But also there was some cosmetic issues that I wanted to address too just because I felt like that was affecting my smile. And then my dentist had also mentioned some concern about root exposure. And so, getting that covered up to prevent future damage was also very important.

I’ve had it done two separate times, and both times they acted like I had never had it done, which I think is important just to still talk to someone through something, even though they’ve had it done before. Every step of the way they explained what they were doing, how it worked. But I really never felt anything during the procedure. I was very surprised by that and surprised by the ease of how it was done. And when it was done, I was just surprised that we were finished.

So if someone had never had a gum graft but maybe needed one and was nervous about coming in for that, I would just explain that really the process itself sounds a lot scarier than it actually is, especially with how they treat you here. And Dr. Everett really makes sure that everything is completely numb before he starts and, even throughout the procedure, make sure that you’re comfortable.

And then the recovery was, you know, a lot easier than I expected to. The most uncomfortable part was the stitches. But other than that, the pain was quite minimal compared to what I originally thought it would be.

I run a non-profit charity called Cowboys Helping Cowboys. And I established it about 20 years
ago to help give financial services or financial donations to cowboys in need that have been not
just injured, but tragically injured or suffered an illness. This year we have a guy that's got
diagnosed with ALS. Unlike a lot of companies that give a little bit to a lot of people, we select a
small amount of people and donate life-changing amounts of money to 'em. The great people
here at High Plains Periodontics, Dr. Everett and his wife, we visited about it and they wanted to
see what it was like. And they came to a few of our events and they're one of our biggest
supporters right now. Not only financially, but, you know, coming and supporting the events and
joining, and they also help spread the word.
And, you know, in our business, that's all you can ask for is a good review and sharing our
mission. I enjoy doing it because I'm helping people. But I also enjoy doing it because it gives
me a chance to be around my friends and family, and rodeo people you don't have to be related
to be family. And Dr. Everett and his wife, you know, they've been like family to me lately. So, it's
not just the great work that they do here at the clinic and everything, but it's the support that
they give to my charity and others and all the great work that they do around the community.
And sometimes that backstory is what really makes a difference.

I think what sets this practice apart is really Dr. Everett. He is very easy to work with, very personable, and all of the staff have just been very kind. Dr. Everett always sits down right next to you. He asks you personal questions about yourself, talks about himself, makes you feel comfortable in the chair first, and then he, kind of, gets into the nitty gritty of the appointment but really all the while making you feel comfortable, even though sometimes what you do here can feel stressful. They just make everything that we have done here very easy.

The quality of care has always been above and beyond. I mean, I would describe it as excellent every time. Even just for checkups, they get you in, but if you have any questions, they always answer all of your questions, make sure you have everything you need. But then when I’ve come here for procedures, they explain everything in detail, make you feel right at home, make sure that you’re comfortable before the procedure. And then the procedures have always been easier than I’ve ever expected.

Anytime you walk in here, you feel welcomed by front desk staff, people in the back, and, of course, the docs. So from the very beginning, I’ve always felt like this is where I needed to be, and very glad that I chose this place to have my gum grafting done.

Yeah, our oldest daughter, Brooke Ashton Parker, she was a trainer at Lubbock-Cooper High School and then, on November 7th of 2016, was coming home from work and met somebody that would forever change our life. She was hit head-on by a drunk driver on the Marsha Sharp Freeway right in front of the Tech football stadium there and killed both of them instantly. And my wife and my mother-in-law went down the very next day and started our what we thought…we just wanted to give a scholarship in Brooke’s name, but it grew so big and so fast we ended up giving three scholarships worth $10,000. And once we met Dr. Everett and everything, his sister, Sinead, was a good friend of Brooke’s. And so, because of that, they’ve gotten involved with our foundation and are a huge, huge, huge part of what we do.

And we give scholarships every year to graduating seniors all over. I mean, it doesn’t matter if you’re in Texas, or New Mexico, or Illinois, or Florida, we go give these scholarships. And because of Dr. Everett and their staff here and his generosity, they’ve become a huge, huge part of who we are. And they help us make a difference, so in a roundabout way, they make a difference every day.

He’s a true example of a business giving back to the community he serves. I think that’s important as a business to do that. And not just our foundation, but he does a lot for a lot of different groups and stuff like that. He’s more than just my dentist. He’s my friend and he’s, kind of, a partner with us, with this foundation of ours.

Hundred and eighty-degree turn. My biggest fear growing up… I’ve never had good teeth, but just the fact…if I had a quarter for every shot I’ve ever had in my mouth to numb me up, it didn’t numb me up. Of course, they gave me an IV and knocked me out. I never felt anything. You know, the shots that they’ve had to give me actually have been painless, and I have to say I never thought I’d be excited about coming to a dentist anytime in my life. But, you know, I love coming and seeing them. They just make you feel at ease in the way they do things. I have no fear of the dentist while I’m coming to them. It’s changed my life, and, you know, they’re just good people. And Dr. Everett, he’s changed my whole thought process with a dentist. I used to you’d say dentist and I’d cringe, and I don’t anymore.

Oh, you know, the atmosphere here is just amazing. The staff that Dr. Everett’s compiled here is just amazing. They care about your needs. They care about you. And I’ve become friends with all of ’em. It’s like, seriously, like, coming to see my family, it’s family. I think it’s the fact that they genuinely care about you as a person, and they care about your health, you know. They know you’re here for the reason that you’re here for, but they really want to make it better. You know, he’s very comforting. He makes you feel…you know, I’ve been places before where I’m a little nervous, never felt that way here, you know. It’s very relaxing. I just always felt like he’s gonna take care of me, and I never worried about it. They’re trying to make sure you’re in no pain and you’re very comfortable with everything that they’re doing.

They ask a lot of questions. Of course, it’s always fun when they talk to you when your mouth’s numb and they’re asking questions and you’re dribbling all over yourself. But as far as just, you know, they call. After I had my procedure done, they were calling once or twice a week just to make sure everything was good, make sure I didn’t need anything, you know. And that’s special in these days, it really is. I think anybody that comes in here is going to feel the same way I felt. I have known a few people that have come in and they absolutely loved it. The expectations were high for me, and they exceeded every one of them. The friendliness, the family atmosphere, I could go on for days about this.

I got hit with a baseball 40 years ago, in 1985 and had seven hours worth of reconstructive surgery on my face. And this is kind of where it all started. The dentist at that time told me, “You fractured a bunch of your teeth, you’re going to have problems.” Well, through the next 40 years, I had a lot of problems, so I could be talking to somebody, a tooth would fall out, it was becoming more of a hassle. I didn’t want to go anywhere. I didn’t want to smile. My quality of life was diminishing quickly.

My daughter was good friends with Dr. Everett’s sister and so she suggested that I come in here and just try it out. Of course, you know, my uneasiness with just going to the dentist in general. But after coming in here and meeting with Dr. Everett and he walked me and my wife through the process of what they would do, and how simple it would be, and of course, nothing ever seems that simple. But I have to say after having it done, and my experience here, it was just amazing. It exceeded my expectations 110%. And I said, “I actually enjoyed the experience.” There was no pain. There was no problems. And I know it’s not always like that. But it was comforting to me to know that now I have my smile back. I can go eat in public, I can talk to people without that fear of a major catastrophe with my teeth.

Oh, wow, it’s really changed my life. You know, when you have teeth issues like I’ve had, and so many people have, it can create a sense of depression at times, because your quality of life is just gone. You can’t eat the foods you enjoy. You just, you’re always worrying about, “What I look like,” you know, “I can’t do this. I can’t do that.” But ever since I’ve come here and have gotten this done, and I’ve just, I mean, I walk around with the biggest smile on my face. And people even telling me, it goes, “Man, I’ve seen you smile more than you’ve done in years.” I’m like, “Well, I can now,” you know. And that’s really been the difference for me.

Yeah, if anybody’s out there that has had any kind of experience, no matter what it is, you’re having teeth problems, I highly recommend coming in here because number 1, they’re going to sit you back and make you feel at ease with it. They’re not going to do anything that you don’t want them to do. But they’re going to…they’re professionals and they do it and do such a good job. And they make you feel so good about it. You’re going to go, “Yeah, I’m glad I came here.”

Years ago, I got hit in the tooth in the mouth with a softball. And of course, one of my teeth died, and I just started having problems with my other teeth. So, I got a denture, you know, and it never fit right. I could go back once a month, and it still wouldn’t fit right, and they just seemed like they didn’t care.

I got tired of the denture because one dentist told me go buy… and I can’t even remember what the name of the stuff. Pink gooey is what I always called it. Pink gooey. “Put some pink gooey on it. It’ll keep it, you know, tight.” It never did. It was just band-aids rather than fixing the problems. It was just band-aid after band-aid after band-aid. It was just hard to enjoy life, especially when I was a postmaster and I was out in the public every day. And I knew I had to do something different.

And I came to Dr. Everett, and I’ve never looked back. I’m not embarrassed to smile. I can eat anything I want to now. I just love Dr. Everett. I will come to him for any problem that I have from now on.

I love coming to Dr. Everett’s practice because they make you feel comfortable, they make you feel like you’re a long-lost friend, and they care about you. They care about your questions. They take the time to answer them. And they just make you feel like you’re one of their family. Dr. Everett’s practice is so many times above any other practice that I’ve ever been to, because you walk into most practices, they look in your mouth and tell you what you need. They don’t have a personal relationship. They don’t make you feel comfortable, to start with. I just feel like he has a caring practice from the time you enter the door until you walk out. The quality of care is above all the others. I don’t think there’s any other orthodontist or dentist that compares to him. I would recommend Dr. Everett. I didn’t use to smile. I was embarrassed. He didn’t look down on me for that. I had a hard time eating. Anyone that I see with the same problems, I tell ’em, you know, “Don’t be embarrassed, because he’s the one who can help you.”

I, sort of, hit the wall on some broken teeth when I was 67. I mean, I’d always had very poor teeth for whatever reason some of us do. I reached the point where I thought, “I need to look at options but I’m not going to go with false teeth.” You know, I just don’t wanna do that.

And so, it’s very difficult to learn as a lay person, and I don’t even think the dentist ever would understand how hard it is to learn about mouth reconstruction. But I finally made a decision to go with the route, which involves removing all of your own teeth and starting over with a permanent prosthesis that’s never removed from your mouth.

He’s extremely talented and that helps along with all this great equipment and well-trained staff. But it’s still worth it in the end from what I was going through before. Never being sure that I would be able to go somewhere or do something because of a tooth issue. I just wish I could have been here sooner. It’s hard for me to describe. It’s a game-changer, it’s a life-changer.

Well, because they pretty much saved my life. They put me back on track with a problem that I had with my teeth. I just am extremely grateful for both the knowledge and the kindness that they showed me here. Well, I was very surprised because this practice I thought would be very expensive, and I’d never heard of them before. And I didn’t think I needed a periodontist for All-on-4s, but when I came here, I was pleasantly surprised that all of the costs were outlined for me up front. It was less expensive than the other dentists that I had actually visited. Everyone was so kind to me. I never had much of a wait, and Dr. Everett always showed up with his big smiling face and said, “We’re gonna take care of this for you.” He seemed kind of young and happy, and it took me probably two or three visits to really warm up and understand who he really is. I was willing to go ahead and go again, you know, write the check again and try and do something, and he was just unbelievably good bedside manner. They took such good care of me here.
