Commonly known as mini implants, or narrow platform implants is what I typically call them, they’re implants that we can utilize to help retain a denture. These are terrific options for…if there’s not adequate bone. And I would also say for our older patients. When mom is sent to the nursing home and having a hard time because of dentures or abstaining, these are the type of cases that do really well in terms of regaining some functionality so she can eat and enjoy her food. And one of my favorite cases that we had was a son had brought his dad, he knows that his dad had significant weight loss, and it was pretty much just eating gravy because he couldn’t eat anything else. And so we were able to place some of these narrow platform or mini implants in there and get his denture to attach, and he started putting on weight because he was able to eat, and he’d like to come back out to lunch with his sons. Those are the fun times to really see that quality of life improve.
Transform Your Smile With Mini Implants
There is a wide range of benefits to a mini implant procedure. Also known as narrow diameter implants, they are often perfect for older adults who have a jaw weakened by bone loss but want to secure replacement teeth like dentures without the use of adhesive. The added support provided by these implants helps increase your chewing efficiency. In addition, mini implants are:
- Less Invasive – With their smaller diameter, placing mini implants is a less involved process. This means you can heal much quicker too. Often times, patients don’t require a grafting procedure, since you don’t need as much bone in your jaw to support these implants.
- Easier to Place – Our periodontist can usually place your mini implants with minimal concern. This is a huge benefit for patients who have been told that traditional implants are not a good fit for their needs.
- Less Expensive – The cost of implants can be significant. With mini implants, you save money because the procedure takes less time and is less involved than placing standard implants. However, we offer financing options with our membership plan or through a third party. Simply let us know if you’d like to discuss your options.
We’d love to work with you on giving you an option for dental implants that improves your oral function and keeps your teeth in place. During an initial consultation, we’ll use panoramic X-rays and 3-D imaging to capture necessary information about your dental health before we begin.
